Other Types of Headaches
Infection of the sinuses is not a common cause of
chronic headache. It is generally associated with a low-grade fever, a thick,
colored drainage from the nose or in the back or the throat, and tenderness over
the sinus area around the eyes and cheeks. Antibiotics and decongestants can
relieve the headache within a few days.
Another less frequent cause of chronic headache
is TM Joint Syndrome. The temporo-mandibular joint, which connects the lower jaw
to the skull, can become diseased, causing a one-sided, continuous headache.
Tenderness and pain centered over the TM joint itself or nearby chewing muscles,
and worsening of the pain during chewing or yawning are symptoms of this
headache.
